Take Dad fishing this weekend! The Family Fishing Society of British Columbia and the Freshwater Fisheries Society of British Columbia are hosting a free fishing weekend, June 17th to the 19th. The goal of the event is for families to enjoy the warm weather and fishing. Numerous communities are offering special events where you can learn how to fish and get fishing and permits and most of these events will contain entertainment and food. British Columbia offers some of the finest fishing in the world and this permit free weekend gives thousands of families the opportunity to take advantage of the popular sport.
Walter Gretzky was honored as Canada's 2011 Father of the Year. The famous hockey player and father of five was recognized for being both a world leader and and extraordinary father. He battled a near-fatal brain aneurysm in 1991 and has since raised millions of dollars for various Canadian organizations over the last past 20 years. The goal of the Father of the year award is to inspire people to reach out to their Fathers and let them know how much they mean to them.
Ontario Craft Beer Week Kicks off on Father's Day, June 19th. The event will feature more than 25 members and local Canadians can enjoy a week long party filled with beer, cheese, chocolate and food. The affair will include beer tastings, brewery tours, cooking demonstrations, food pairings, beer dinners, activities, music venues, games, outdoor venues, restaurant venues and bar venues. The event, which takes place on June 18th and 19th, will be feature over 200 soldiers and re enactments of various battles. Black Creek will also be hosting a special Father's Day BBQ ribs lunch during Sunday's event. Tickets can be purchased online and they cost $15 for adults and $11 for children.
If your dad is a movie buff than celebrate Father's Day at the Riverdale Park East in Toronto, Canada. Art City is featuring an outdoor movie showing that helps support their free after school and weekend children's art programs. The outdoor movie will begin at dusk, on June 19th, and they will be showing Tim Burton's classic movie, Edward Scissorhands. The movie is free but all other proceeds go to the Art City program. Toronto's Habitat for Humanity is throwing a unique Father's Day event where families can decorate their own bird house and also raise money for local families who are struggling with poverty. This year, Car-Free Vancouver Day will take place on Father's Day, June 19th. The street will open at 10 am and the festival will take place from 12pm to 6 pm on Commercial Drive (East First Avenue to Venables Street). The street party will include a roller disco, food and entertainment for the whole family. In 2010 the festival brought in over 250,000 people and this year Vancouver has prepared for the large crowds by adding more volunteers and space.

Sunrise Senior Living is hosting their first ever Father's Day cookout. The cookouts will be held the weekend of June 18th and 19th and the event will take place in over 300 locations across the United States and Canada. The cost of the cookout is $12 for adults (fathers can attend for free) and $6 for children under the age of 10. The Father's Day charity event is part of their "Taste of Sunrise" series, which allows the public to experience their dining program and support the fight against diabetes in senior citizens. 30% of all proceeds will go towards the American Diabetes Association and the Canadian Diabetes Association and specific locations and information can be found on Sunrise Senior Living's website.
This Father's Day weekend, Woodbine Park is hosting their annual Rib Fest. The event will take place on June 18th from 3pm to 10pm, the 19th from 11am until 9pm and the 20th from 11am until 8pm. The Muttart Conservatory is hosting the Jazz It Up! Father's Day event. The celebration takes place on June 20th from 1pm to 4pm. Admission is $10.50 for adults and $5.25 for children. Activities include light jazz music on the patio, a pyramid show, a craft area where children can create there own Father's Day gift, and a mini golf course. Spend Father's Day outdoors at the SkyTrek Adventure Park. On June 20th the park is offering Dads half priced admission on all of their courses. The park features fun and adventurous activities including a high rope challenge, suspension bridges, a climbing wall, a log climb, a sky swing, a course where you can skateboard from one tree to another and a sky drop, along with activities for smaller children. Casa Loma is hosting a Father's Day brunch and archery event. On June 20th, brunch will be available at 10:30 am, 11 am, 12:30pm and 1 pm. The meal will be served within the historical library of the castle. Once participants are done with brunch they are free to explore the rest of the castle.
